Hot stars fume at Disney

“A BIG announcement for sure!! 7 films scheduled for release but only 5 are deemed worthy of representation. 2 films, receive no invitation or intimation. It’s a long road ahead. THE CYCLE CONTINUES,” thundered Vidyut Jammwal after being ignored by the OTT platform DisneyPlusHotstar who called everyone from Alia Bhatt to represent Sadak 2, Ajay Devgn to represent Bhuj: The Pride of India, Akshay Kumar for Laxmmi Bomb and Abhishek Bachchan for The Bigg Bull – all four of which are the seven films to premiere on OTT between July to October. This was actually the biggest ever announcement in OTT history in India about movie premeires. An earlier announcement was already done regarding the premiere of the Sushant Singh Rajput swansong Dil Bechara which was in fact made available to both subscribers and nonsubscribers.

But Jammwal whose film Khuda Hafiz directed by Faruk Kabir and produced by T Series is also one of the films to be premiered was kept out leading to one of India’s best action men tweeting his feelings.

Another film which also premieres on the OTT platform is the Kunal Khemu comedy Lootcase produced by Fox Star and directed by Rajesh Krishnan was once touted to be a surprise package by the former head of Fox – Vijay Singh. But Kunal too was ignored and not called to be a part of the interaction moderated by Varun Dhawan -Kunal’s gym buddy!

“Izzat aur pyaar maanga nahi kamaya jaata hai. Koi na de toh usse hum chhote nahi hote. Bas maidaan khelne ke liye barabar de do chhalaang hum bhi oonchi laga sakte hai,” Kunal Khemu got into a poetic mode without going Over The Top.

Ostensibly Kunal was hurting, but wasn’t as vocal as what the action man Vidyut was. He even tweeted the mandatory details of the film that were doled out to him, while the platform may not have mustered the courage to ask the thunderbolt Jammwal.

Strangely the interaction which was also Bollywood’s first big one after the lockdown did not bother to pay obeisance to the souls, we lost in this period including Rishi Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, Basu Chatterji and Sushant.

We await an official response from the OTT platform.
