JNU inspiration in Saif’s next

Updated: May 25, 2020

The attack on the students and student leaders at the Jawaharlal University a few months ago shook the entire nation. While real life incidents do find a way into fiction in some form or the other – biographically or loosely inspired – the JNU incident will indeed feature in the Saif Ali Khan web series – earlier called Taandav and then Dilli.

This is Saif’s second web series after he was the flag bearer for big Bollywood stars to enter the web with Sacred Games. And this too ahs political intonations. While his first work Sacred Games was based from Vikram Chandra’s book of the same name and had several references to former prime ministers Rajiv and India Gandhi as well. Saif played a cop in that series.

“But this one is on politics and Saif playing a privileged politician who aspires to be the prime minister of the country. So, there are several references not just to politics, but to murders, student politics, references to the JNU without calling it so and sex scandals among others,” say sources.

The series is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and also has actors like Amyra Dastur, Sunil Grover, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub and Sunil Grover among others in the cast and is slated to be seen sometime on Amazon Prime.

Incidentally the show does not have a clear title and the makers will zero in on the title soon, add sources.
